Why I Don't Use A "Moisturizer" Anymore...

The title may be a bit misleading because I do moisturize still { DUH! }

But not with a traditional cream or lotion product...

I have been on a serum kick for about 8 months give or take now, and I will never go back!!!

I told you a couple posts ago that I have been using an organic rosehip oil on my post-surgery scars as well as my face.

Apparently Dr. Oz called it "Nature's Retin-A" Ugh I will never ever put that crap on my face!!

So in my skin needling post I briefly mentioned how luminous and youthful and even toned my skin has been looking since incorporating this oil into my routine. And let me tell you, I will never ever quit using it.

Like my skin is so amazing I never wear makeup anymore...like evs

So here's a bit more info on the benefits of rosehip oil :)

What is Rosehip Oil good for? Can I use it?
YES! Of course first make sure your not allergic to this oil, but everyone of any age can use it.
It's great for the following skin concerns...
  • dry skin
  • eczema
  • dermatitis
  • psoriasis
  • stretch marks
  • wrinkles
  • sun damage
  • acne scars
  • and much more

What does it smell like? Roses?
Def does not smell like roses FYI

Some clients of mine literally won't buy an amazing product just bc of the smell like WTH!

I am totally not like that at all, smell is not a factor in my thought process. If it works give it to me!

It does not have a bad scent but it sure as heck ain't roses!

When Will I Start to See Results?
As I cannot guarantee your specific results without knowing your specific skin, I can tell you that I started to see immediate results in a couple weeks and continue to make progress with this oil and my skin needling

I love love love this oil and will never go back!

Does It HAVE To Be Organic?
ummmm.....yes

And I say this because I take what I put into my body and what I put on my skin very seriously.

So yes it must, must be organic!

So again, this facial oil has completely changed the way I look at my skin and what I put onto it. Only the freshest and purest ingredients! I promise you will see results if you are consistent!!!

Do not use this for two days and say "Oh I haven't seen miracles so I am going to quit using it...."

I can't wait to hear your feedback and if you have any other organic oils you think I should try email me at emasonbeauty@gmail or leave a comment below!

Newest Skin Rage: Skin Needling

Disclaimer:
Before reading this post please remember I am a licensed professional in this field, I do know what I am doing and researched immensely before even attempting this. Please make sure if you try this consult a physician or dermatologist.

Now that ^ that ^ is out of the way, I am going to talk to you all about skin needling AKA derma rolling AKA putting little baby holes in your face!!!!

People are very skeptical about this practice and of course I totally understand. It seems very unconventional and...weird right?

I mean pricking tiny needles into your skin to create a trauma and then what???

Haha I have done it three times to myself so far and......I la la love it!!!

I still don't think I have done it hard enough yet, my face does get red and a little irritated when I do it { normal } but I am nervous to do it harder as I do not want to draw blood.

How I Am Doing It:
So firstly, you're supposed to start out with a roller with 0.25-0.5 mm needles. I got the 0.5 to start. You build up a tolerance and I am currently doing it twice a week.

For the few nights prior to your first rolling, you're supposed to prep the skin with a Vit C serum of some sort. I do this every night anyway { Post on the crazy awesome benefits of Vit C soon! } so my skin was already ready.

There are so many articles and different ways people say to do it out there so consult your Doc and do your research before trying PLEASE!!!!

So that is the serum I am currently using, this is a good one or try this one.

There will be a comprehensive post soon about why you should be using Vit C morning and night no matter at what age!!!

So I still use this serum during the needling process but not on the nights I needle....

You should be using an organic face oil or serum directly after needling. It does sting and tingle after you put it on.

I initially purchased this oil for my post surgery scarring and actually I am loving it on my face as well. Such an amazing oil and absorbs fast.

I read a lot about rosehip oil for a natural scar remedy because I did not want to use icky chem filled Mederma or something like that.

Rosehip oil is highly anti-aging and actually contains Vit C as well.

It is great for scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, rashes, burns, acne scars, dry skin, dermatitis, age spots, brittle nails, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damaged hair/skin.

As you can see it was an optimal choice for using on my face as well. It is such a luxurious oil and does not have the best smell but that doesn't bother me. I am about how it works, not how it smells.

{ Fave combo at the moment }

So far this rosehip oil Vit C serum are kicking ass for my face. I did order another organic rosehip oil to try and compare to the above one.

My Results Thus Far:
So far I have had wonderful results and no scary, crazy stories like some people have read about.

Please KNOW what you are doing before attempting because I have a strong inclination that the people with "horror stories" did not know what they were doing.

I have found myself wearing less and less makeup as my skin becomes clearer and clearer. Now I am starting with good skin but it is not perfect. I do have some post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation going on from previous breakouts. And that's about it but I do see an overall clarity to my skin from the needling and oh so amazing rosehip oil. My dark marks are disappearing faster than I thought they would and I am so happy!

I am so excited to see how it progresses the next 5 weeks until I go up in size to a 0.75mm derma roller. I will keep you all updated :)

As always, email me at emasonbeauty@gmail.com for private questions or leave a comment below. I would love to hear if you have heard of this or already use any of these products.

Happy rolling,

My Favie Sweet Treats: Part One

Here's the thing, I am constantly trying to find ways to tweak my fave desserts and of course create more easy treats to satisfy that sweet tooth of mine

I think the key with anything is moderation

I still eat the sweets I'm not technically supposed to, but just in moderation, not every day

So some of these recipes you have seen before [ I will link to the page ]

Some are just things I've thrown together. This will be a short post but I will continue to make new recipes to post

Mm k?

You all have seen this one before
Its a super easy way to get a sweet chocolate treat without all the fatty sickieness of pre packaged hot choc ICK!

2. Organic Strawbs and Whipped Cream
If you've never made this before............. I'm sorry

Its so damn good!!!

And how simple is it??? Anyone can pull this off

All you need is a clear portion controlled bowl, a handful of chopped strawberries, and some organic whipped cream!

Done, easy peasy

These are so good when you need a bit of energy and are wanting something sweet

An amazing pre workout, I use these when I am on the run and don't want to eat out or just need a boost of energy

A bunch of yummy ingreds and completely clean!

4. Chocolate Covered....
How about choc covered anything????

I kid, I kid

But I like to use between 60-75% cacao when I dip, cover and smother with choc :)

This particular pic has fresh strawberries { see the theme? } and nut clusters

I don't always do nut clusters as well but I had extra choc and you never, ever waste chocolate

Hope you enjoyed part one of this delish series
If you have any ideas shoot them my way

My Top Physical Sunblock Picks

Yup....it's that time of year again

My annual important 'SPF talk'

Unlike myself, I am sure most of you don't wear SPF 50 24/7 365...

Ha think I'm crazy yet??

Trust me you still get sun even when indoors and even when its cloudy out

A lot of my clients tell me they are allergic to sunscreen, which can be true, but I have found they are mostly allergic to the icky chemical based sunscreens that absorb the rays rather than deflecting them. I mean who wants that nasty-ness inside their body???

NOT ME
so I use physical based sunscreens like 'titanium dioxide' and 'aluminum oxide' they deflect those aging sun rays and keep us looking young

Fun Fact: 90% of the aging process is caused by extrinsic factors
 AKA
the sun, pollution, etc.

Can you believe that??? It's the damn truth

So here are my top organic and physical based sunblocks!!!

An excellent eco brand, I have used Coola products before and la la love them
Tinted AND spf 50??? win win!
This is a staple in my summer beauty routine I am using this one currently and with a dusting of Pur minerals powder over it, looks amazing.

Never heard of this line? Well you need to check it out. I have some of the skin care and pure organic argan oil and I love it. I am curious to try the sunscreen as well!

Lips need SPF love too!! Do not neglect them!
Esp at the pool, beach and everywhere in between!

Don't forget to slather on the good stuff this summer
;)

Product Review: CapriClear

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend, I am here with an amazing product review.

I am sort of majorly obsessed with products that do double duty. I mean....anything to make my life easier right?!

This is a product designed for people with super sensitive skin or eczema. I have neither BUT, if you have read any of my previous posts you know how much I love coconut oil and all of it's amazeballs uses. The reason I love this product is because it is 100% fractionated coconut oil!!! It is called CapriClear

WTF is fractionated coconut oil you ask?!
Well it is literally a 'fraction' of coconut oil. To cut out all the scientific mumbo jumbo, it is the medium chain triglyceride oil because it is primarily the medium-chain caprylic and capric acids that make up the bulk of the oil. Also, the coconut 'smell' is eliminated and the shelf life is greatly increased due to this process.

So why is it good for me?
First of all, it is a ONE ingredient product { hallelujah!!!! } and it is good for sensitive, dry flakey skin, stretch marks, scars, etc! Being an Esthetician I am helping people with all kinds of skin conditions on a day to day basis and this is truly an amazing product that I use and recommend to all kinds of people. With the great price point, it is affordable to most everyone as well.

How do I use it?
Here's the fun part, I literally use it for everything!! From a nighttime oil treatment for my face, to a lash and brow growth serum, to my hair!! Yup, my hair, it has replaced my Moroccan Oil. But more on that in another post.

Get your paws on it HERE!

Beauty Review: Nourish Organic Body Lotion

You all are probably like finally, a product review!!!!! I habitually change my body lotion whenever I finish it. There are some things I won't ever change, and there are some things that always change! i.e. body lotion!
So I have tried their fresh fig deodorant and wasn't too impressed with it, so I didn't have high hopes for the body lotion. But, I actually really like it!
The Formula:
It is pretty thick when it first comes out, but once you apply it to your skin and start spreading it out it almost becomes watery. Not watery in a bad way, since it has mint in it its very cooling and refreshing. It is probably more suited for the summer since it isn't truly thick. But as you know from this post, you really don't need a thicker lotion for the winter if you exfoliate a few times a week. I was a little disappointed because the scent is 'lavender mint' and there really wasn't much lavender anywhere! It is very minty. Maybe I am biased since I love all things lavender. :D

Final Thoughts:
Obvi it gets major props since it is certified organic and at this price point, its hard to find that in a body lotion. I haven't decided if I will repurchase or not, it wasn't soooo amazing that its now my HG body lotion, but its not horrible either. I would give it a shot if you are in the market for a new body lotion!

So it's no secret that I am an organic skin care and makeup junkie!! It is my passion and the field I work in. I wanted to share with you some amazing products for the makeup lover in your life! All of these items are on my wish list
{{ I promise :) }}

Sephora has some amazing value sets this year! Most of what I ask for is one of their holiday sets because you get soooo much stuff for an amazing price. A lot of times it is more fun to try out the smaller versions and then only buy full size what you want. So enjoy this beauty wish list!!!!

1. Sephora In The Glow Set  >> Totally obsessed with this set! It is full of highlighters and bronzers! Not all are natural, but that doesn't bother me at all!!!!

2. Tarte Clean Slate Deluxe Primer Trio >> At $9 this is a total stocking stuffer!!! You get to try all of Tarte's amazing primers! And let me tell you, they are fab natural primers!

3. Tarte SmolderEYES Deluxe 6-piece Set >> Number ONE on my list, this 6 piece [[ might I add full size ]] set is a must for any gal who loves her shimmery, long lasting, eye liners! So creamy and the pigmentation is perfection. It even comes with a black skinny eye liner too! My faves to smudge for any look; day or night.

4. Tarte Carried Away Collector's Set >> As you can see, I love Tarte products! I think they are affordable { for a natural brand } and they have an amazing selection. This set is probably the most 'bang for your buck' out of all of these. You get tons of eye shadows, blush, mini mascara, and mini glosses!

5. Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio >> I love the fresh sugar glosses and this mini trio is perfect if you want to try them out! You get three great colors that could be used day or night!

Keep Your Body Smooth & Soft During Winter

So wintertime is almost upon us and it is getting tougher to keep our skin soft, supple, and properly moisturized. As much as I talk about keeping your face moisturized, keeping your body moisturized is just as important! We tend to forget about the parts below the neck. I always amp up my routine for the winter because we use the heat more and its colder out which both play a part in drying out our skin. I am going to show you some of my favorite products to keep smooth and flake free during the winter.

Dry Brushing

The first thing I do is use a dry brush all over my body daily. This may sound strange, but you brush in upward strokes starting at your feet all the way to your neck. It stimulates your blood flow and circulation, as well as decreases cellulite. There are actually many more amazing benefits to dry brushing that are beneficial to your health. I use this dry brush daily.

Exfoliate

You all know how much I love Indie Lee products from this post, so you know her body scrub must be amaze! I would suggest using a body scrub a couple times a week to keep your dead skin at bay. The dry brush does help with exfoliation but in the winter you need something stronger. With minimal ingredients and yummy essential oils, I know you will love this scrub! Plus its big so it will last you forever! Purchase here!

Moisturize

Probably the most important! I love the feeling of silky, smooth legs so after exfoliation it is key to moisturize well. One of my favorite brands is John Masters Organics. And one of my favorite scents of all time is the John Masters Blood Orange Body Milk. It smells good enough to eat! Literally! So some people think its necessary to switch to a heavy body butter in the winter but I feel that if you stay exfoliated regularly you should be just fine. Unless you have abnormally dry skin<<<<in that case load up on a heavier one ;)
John Masters also has this body milk in body wash form [YUM]

Hope you enjoyed lovelies!

Skincare Fave: Indie Lee

I am very, very picky about what I put on my skin. I know that everything that goes on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream (think about all those chemicals and cancer causing ingredients in your favorite brands like MAC, MUFE, Dior, Chanel etc!). That's why I am so anal about natural cosmetics and natural skin care! It's just about being informed.

Here's where Indie Lee comes in. I read this amazing article almost a year ago and I just had to see what she is about as well as what her brand is about. Here is a snippet of her story from her website:

"I’m Indie lee. On Earth Day 2009, I was given a new life — I awoke from brain surgery to discover that a potentially fatal tumor had been successfully removed. Having learned that environmental toxins may have been the culprit, I began devoting myself to making all natural beauty products from the finest ingredients across the globe. Remember, what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. We also need to nurture our soul to let our inner beauty shine through. Life should be lived to its fullest, one moment at a time."

I was inspired by her strength and eagerness to create such an amazing line. I have spoken back and forth with her quite a few times on Twitter and she is truly an inspiration! Now this is a skin care company I would love to work for.

The Products

I purchased each of these on Hautelook about 6 months ago! And I still have a ton in each of them. I am so pleased by the quality and delicious smells!

The Cleanser

I LOVE this cleanser so much! I use it only at night on days I wear makeup to remove the makeup before my other cleanser. Usually, I recommend a creamy cleanser to remove makeup, but this one does it better than other creamy ones I've tried! Now I've used this for many months now and it is still almost half full!
If you have normal/dry skin types you could just use this morning and night, but since I have combo/acne prone I use a different cleanser with salicylic or tea tree in it.
Let's talk about the scent! Oh my it is delicious! The first time I used it I was stunned at how amazing it smelled, like fresh, ripe strawberries! It didn't smell artificial at all, and I hate when products go overboard on nasty artificial ingredients. I will definitely repurchase this when I run out because I love it so much!

Shop all Indie Lee Cleansers HERE!

Ingredients:
100% Natural: Purified Water, Decyl Glucoside, Disodium, Coco- Glucoside Citrate, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Xanthan Gum, Strawberry Oil, Lycopene, Phenoxythenol*, Ethylhexyglycerin * *Derived from natural sources

The Eye Balm

The eye balm is another amazing product I purchased. You can't really beat an eye product with just 4 ingredients! I only use this product at night, I just find that it tends to take a little while to sink in and sometimes I just don't have the time to wait that long in the a.m.! I love the first ingredient Calendula Oil because it is very healing and has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It soothes dry skin and calms redness. But I also love the scent!! Anyone who knows me knows my favorite scent in the whole world is lavender! This product has definitely helped with under eye circles and puffiness when I wake up.

I apply this product with my ring finger only. I always make sure to wash my hand before touching any potted products like this and before touching my face period. I just swirl my finger around and glide under and around my eyes!

Find the Eye Balm HERE!

It really is a balm!

When warmed up on fingertips it instantly melts!

Ingredients:
100 % Natural: Calendula Oil, Beeswax, Magnifera Indica (mango) Seed Butter and Lavandula Angustifolia (lavender) Oil

Shop all Indie Lee Balms HERE!

All in all, I highly recommend these products. I can't wait to purchase more from Indie!
It always makes me feel better when I purchase product from a small business or a wonderful person such as Indie, rather than some huge "popular" brand that tests on animals in some crazy country (ahem, Estee Lauder, Mary Kay & Avon I'm talking to you!!!).

DIY: Overnight Hair Mask

Once a week I will do a really good deep conditioning mask on my hair. Since I only wash it once a week with a homemade concoction (another post to come), I like to do an overnight deep condition as well. I use this Dermorganic Masque Intensive Hair Repair. It has so many good, repairing ingredients in it. The argan oil  makes your hair especially soft and shiny! I love it! I got this huge pump bottle 50% off at TJ Maxx and it is going to last forever.

FULL hair care post here!

{ I divided my hair into 2 sections to make it easier to apply the masque.
I started applying it about 2 inches from my roots }

{ Pin it up to hold it overnight }

{ no makeup!!!! haha }

I love the way this product smells, but remember you can use any treatment mask you want!
Have you tried doing an overnight treatment before? My full hair care routine here!
